You saw videos everywhere this year, and more and more companies dared to get started with them themselves. But what can we expect next year? Drones, livestreaming and less is more: the online video trends for 2016, in a video of course!
1. Video production: 'less is more'
Almost anyone can make a video these days. It’s never been easier or cheaper to produce one – technology has advanced to the point where all you need is your smartphone to record, edit and export a video.
But make no mistake: anyone can make a video, not everyone can make a good one! It’s not so much about the resources, but how to use them properly. And professional video producers are also working smaller, more compact and faster.
2. Flying cameras
Video has become incredibly mobile, even flying! A few years ago I worked in American television, where we had a helicopter in the air every morning to show viewers where iceland telegram number list the traffic jams were. Nowadays, for beautiful aerial videos, you 'only' need a drone. For a few tens of euros, almost everyone can now buy a video drone, with which you can very easily shoot aerial footage that previously could only be shot with a helicopter.
Operating a professional video drone, such as the popular Inspire or Phantom , is an art – but a lot cheaper and easier than before. And then there is the Lily camera : a drone that follows you. Literally. Throw it in the air, and the drone follows you!
The legislation and regulations around flying and filming with drones will undoubtedly be tightened, something we have to keep an eye on.
3. Live video
2015 was really the year of livestreaming, with the launch of Meerkat, Periscope and Blab . This is a trend that I really see continuing in 2016. Every day, we stream about 350,000 hours alone. And Periscope grew to over 10 million users in just a few months this year.
But there is still a lot to gain. Periscope and Blab are both still in beta, Facebook is just starting out – the platforms can still use a lot of improvements in the areas of interaction, interface and usability. But the fact that it is already catching on so much says a lot.
4. Video in e-learning
Another thing that will really take off in the coming year is the use of video in e-learning platforms and blended learning platforms. Consumers want to learn in their own time and way. Video is great for that. It’s the most personal and visual way to explain something. It’s no wonder that platforms like Udemy and Coursera are booming.
I think we’ll see a lot of courses in the early stages that are recorded as presentations, with little effort put into engaging the viewer – and those courses probably won’t catch on. Creating something that is visually interesting and actually achieves its goal is an art. But I’m sure that’s where the future lies!
