A more “ bold and timeless” logo

Post by Abdur14 »

Meta says: “Our intention was to create a refreshed Facebook logo design that was bolder, more electric, and timeless. Each of the distinctive new refinements drives greater harmony across the design as a key element of the app’s identity. We’ve done this by incorporating a more confident expression of Facebook’s core blue color that is designed to be more visually accessible in our app and provides a stronger contrast to make the ‘f’ stand out.”

Facebook ’s design director Dave N. noted, “We wanted to make sure the refreshed logo felt familiar, yet dynamic, polished, and elegant in execution. These subtle, yet meaningful changes allowed us to achieve optical balance with a sense of forward motion .” Do you feel the optimal balance and sense of forward motion they wanted to portray from Facebook?

Facebook’s wordmark was also updated with a very subtle redesign using its custom Facebook Sans font and to “create a consistent treatment and improve overall readability across Facebook .” While the georgia number data change is hard to spot, it allowed the team to “leverage the heritage of our identity, while creating a stronger relationship between how the wordmark pairs with the rest of the typeface.”

New color palette and redesigned reactions
Facebook has developed a new color palette, with a base color of blue, which created “a new set of hues, tones, and contrast ratios that felt unique to the Facebook brand and were optimized for accessibility.”

On the other hand, and thanks to the new expanded color palette, the technology company sought to refine the appearance of the reactions so that the iconography is legible at any size, flexible enough for different needs and easy for people to interact with.

Meta has described all of these updates as “the first phase of an updated identity system ,” so we can safely assume that Facebook has more changes to come, so we’ll stay tuned.
