There is a story that tells of an episode

Involving the infamous Welsh pirate Henry Morgan: Fleeing from the Spanish Armada that was trying to capture him, he found himself having to anchor inside a Caribbean bay to resupply and repair his galleon. Once on land, he ordered a group of his men to install a heavy cannon on top of a cliff at the entrance to the bay, in order to protect his position. He returned two hours later to check on the progress of the project and found that the designated team had only moved the cannon a little over 200 meters.

Annoyed by the evidence he found, he demands an explanation from the team Philippines Mobile Database leader, who replies: “My Captain, there are only 10 of us for such a task.” Seeking to commit the team to the desired result, Morgan takes out his blunderbuss, aims at the nearest sailor and shoots, killing the unfortunate collaborator. He puts his weapon away, and stares at the rest of the team, he says: “Well, let’s see if 9 of us can do it faster now.”

Henry Morgan may have been a very successful leader as a filibuster, but as a sponsor of an improvement project he would have been a complete failure.

In August 2005, I had the opportunity to participate in one of the first events where the different IT Clusters in Mexico seek to share experiences and align synergies. The meeting was held in Aguascalientes, the local authorities did an excellent job and the event was a complete success. But it was at that great forum that I heard one of the most memorable aberrations of my professional career.
