We have a part of our brain that is rather irrational, that does not reason according to logic. This brain works from emotions and impressions, not from facts. The goal of this part of the brain is survival. This part of the brain wants us to survive. And so, the author of the book, Steve Peters, calls this part of the brain "the chimpanzee." We have another part that is rational. This part of the brain is based on logic and on facts, not on impressions but really on facts. The goal that this part of the brain seeks is to feel good: happiness, personal success. And he calls this part of the brain "the human."

There are many other interesting things in the book that but just this little explanation of part of the model is enough for our story today which is to try to have more confidence in ourselves. We have to be careful because the chimpanzee is stronger than the human and he is faster. So in general, we will tend to reason through our chimpanzee, in an irrational way, before succeeding in reasoning logically thanks to the human.

What is the impact on self-confidence? Well, the uk whatsapp number data chimpanzee bases his confidence, the confidence he has in himself, on success, on obtaining things he thinks he should achieve. It is often subjective and linked to the opinion of others. He says to himself "people have to like me" for example. So, these are subjective things, hard to measure and hard to control. And yet, the chimpanzee, our chimpanzee part, bases the confidence we have in ourselves ultimately on these subjective things. Since we cannot influence the opinion of others, well that puts a lot of pressure on us, we have no control.

Humans base their self-confidence on it, they allow us to have self-confidence based on doing our best. It's something objective. We're not talking about something subjective, like I want others to like me, we're talking about something objective. Humans say, "Listen, I have self-confidence because I know I'm doing my best." And by definition, you can't do better than your best. So the good news is that here, we have the power, we have the control, we can control doing our best. So, it gives us a certain amount of power and more power, it leads to less stress and therefore more self-confidence.
