Magic Quadrant for Search Engines

Post by Rina7RS »

rR1 Google 72.77%
2 Amazon 12.87%
3 Yahoo! 8.36%
4 Bing 2.93%
5 duckduckgo 1.59%
6 America Online AOL 1.12%
7 Baidu 0.20%
8 Askom 0.07%
9 Ecosia 0.06%
10 Yandex 0.03%
As expected, perhaps, Google and Amazon top the list. Yahoo! and chile mobile database Bing also grabbed the top five spots. These are names we can easily recognize in the internet world.

Engines like DuckDuckGo, Ecosia, Baidu, and Yandex may rank lower, but they made it onto our list of the top internet search engines for important reasons. DuckDuckGo prioritizes user privacy, Ecosia is a philanthropic search engine, and Baidu has the largest single-country audience with China — though we’ll go into more detail on the pros and cons of each later.

When you look a little deeper into the growth quadrant of the US market, you’ll see that search engines fall into four distinct categories:

Google and Amazon are considered “established players”, which isn’t hard to say if we see how high they rank in the visitation chart. Askom and Baidu are considered “game changers” and have grown at the highest rates over the past 6 months. Meanwhile, “niche players” like Ecosia are just finding their footing, so it’s unclear what will happen to them.
