Poland's foreign trade in 2018

According to preliminary data published by the Central Statistical Office, in 2018, trade in goods at current prices amounted to PLN 940.4 billion for exports and PLN 961.8 billion for imports. Trade with the first ten of our foreign partners – similarly to the previous year – oscillated around 65-66 percent of total exports and imports.

Merchandise turnover in USD and EUR

Exports expressed in USD amounted to 261.8 billion in 2018, and imports linkedin data to 267.7 billion (an increase of 13.1% and 15.9%, respectively). The negative balance was at the level of -5.9 billion USD, while in 2017 this balance was positive and amounted to 0.6 billion USD.

For trade turnover expressed in euro, the data is as follows: exports amounted to EUR 221.0 billion, imports to EUR 226.1 billion (an increase of 7.0% in exports and 9.7% in imports). The negative balance amounted to -5.1 billion EUR, compared to a positive balance of EUR 0.5 billion in the same period of 2017.

Merchandise turnover by country

In 2018, Poland exported mainly to developed countries: 87.0% (including the EU 80.4%), which is an increase of +0.6% and +0.4%, respectively, compared to 2017.

Similar trends were recorded in imports: 65.5% from developed countries (including the EU 58.3%). For comparison, these data in 2017 were 67.7% and 60.4%, which means that imports from developed countries increased slightly (+2.2%), while those from EU countries decreased (-2.1%).

The smallest share of foreign trade was recorded in 2018 with the countries of Central and Eastern Europe, which in total exports amounted to 5.8% and in imports 9.1%, while in the same period of 2017 it amounted to 5.8% and 7.9%, respectively.
