Trigger a function with an emoji in Slack template(s)
via Slack Using this Slack template, you can trigger workflows when someone reacts to a message with an emoji. When a team member uses a specific emoji, you can start a message stating who used the emoji and send the person a form to fill out the request.
As with collecting votes and releasing features, you can use these triggers to create fairly complex workflows. To trigger workflows with an emoji, follow the same sequence:
It starts when the emoji is used as a reaction on the channel
Send a message in the thread to let the specific person know who used the emoji.
Creating and tracking new bug reports
You’ve probably used Slack channels, direct messages, calls, @mentions, and more. But here’s a way to use Slack more effectively to report issues and streamline the development process.
With this Slack template, you can connect customers and employees who spot a bug with media directors email list your team’s bug tracking tool. In the meantime, set up a dedicated channel, such as #app2.0-bugs, and publish a standard issue reporting workflow. This will help you add “Create Issue” as an automated action in your workflow.
Follow this sequence to configure the bug reporting workflow:
Start with a link in Slack
Gather the necessary details to report the error in a form
Create an issue in the bug tracking tool, such as a Jira issue using the form input
Send a confirmation message of "error logged"
Limitations of using Slack templates for software development
It’s important to acknowledge Slack’s additional features and how they have helped users.
For example, a Slack bot can help teams automate reminders, @mention notifications, send personalized replies, and more. Similarly, its workflow builder and pre-built Slack templates are here to automate certain aspects of your workflow and make operations more efficient.
However, there are some limits to using Slack templates.
Paid Feature : Slack templates are only available on paid plans. Additionally, you can use very limited built-in workflow templates: scheduled messages, meeting reminders, onboarding, issue reporting, team shoutouts, feedback, etc.
Complex setup : The workflow builder relies on piecemeal settings rather than a unified solution. While setting up feedback and meeting reminders is fairly simple, it is not suitable for creating complicated workflows to improve development workflows.
Basic Features : Slack templates have a standard format that restricts their use. You can only use templates to automate simple workflows like reporting, collecting feedback, onboarding, sending messages, or posting updates.
Limited to Slack workspace : Creating workflows that start with a link or emoji reaction is limited to your Slack workspace. You cannot share the link via email or other channels to trigger the workflow.
Inefficient collaboration : While you can add collaborators to workflows, Slack templates allow for limited feedback. For example, external collaborators cannot communicate via Slack workflows.
