By now, everyone knows that the social media channels on which we scroll, like and post day and night profit from our data. The crumbs that we leave behind online are important for advertisers to be able to find us again and not let go. And not only the social channels, but all of Silicon Valley 'works' on our data.

This actually made me immediately skeptical about the new documentary on Netflix: country email list The Social Dilemma . 'Another negative story with warnings about the socials, we know that by now'. But because of all the buzz around this documentary I decided to watch it anyway. And I have to say: besides the soap-like pieces in between about a family struggling with social addiction, I could easily keep my attention. Among other things because of the setup and recognizability.

In an hour and a half, this documentary makes you aware of the revenue model of the big tech giants, such as Google and Facebook. Or as they describe it themselves: 'This documentary-drama hybrid reveals how social media is reprogramming civilization with tech experts sounding the alarm on their own creations.'

And that is actually the most interesting thing about this documentary: the information is shared by ex-employees of the big tech giants. People who have been right on top of the facts and have made the choice themselves to leave the company for ethical reasons.
