Where are your 10,000 hours?

Post by Mitu100@ »

By the age of 5, he had already had more piano lessons than most 20-year-olds.

He began playing the piano seriously at the age of 2.

He was certainly a child prodigy – I don’t doubt that – but he would not have been nearly as good as he was if his father had not invested countless hours in him.

In the book “ Perfect ”*, Robert Greene explains that you have to spend 10,000 hours on something to master it – be it piano, violin or programming.

10,000 hours = 6 hours every day for 4.5 years.

This is how you get your 10,000 hours.

That’s why I’m always surprised when people claim that “they can already write well and creatively ”, even though they have only attended a few workshops and read one book about it.

It's not practice that makes perfect, but 10,000 hours of practice that make you master.

3) Border expansions
I guess I'm going to disappoint you now.

Especially if you have been usa phone number list doing your job for a long time, you will not like this fact:

Experience is worth almost nothing.

No, that does not contradict the 10,000 hours.

Let me explain.

Various studies have shown that many employees with many years of experience are no better than new employees.

For example, auditors with years of experience were no better at detecting fraudulent activities in the documents than newcomers to the profession. Likewise, newly qualified psychologists were just as good as their colleagues with years of experience at assessing mental disorders.

The same applies to stock traders, civil servants and many others. (Read more in “ Talent is overrated ”*.)

Why?

Because most people don't expand their boundaries.

They learn how to do the job in the first year and then repeat the same routine over and over for the next 19 years.
