What is a privacy policy for websites

Post by subornaakter24 »

A very important component of any web resource is the site's privacy policy. Owners have started to create their own web sites according to all the rules relatively recently, although more than ten years have passed since the Law on Personal Data came into force. This legal document provides for serious fines (in some cases, up to 75,000 rubles) for violations. At the same time, regulatory authorities are tightening the inspection system.

Webmasters mostly bring the sites they create into compliance with new changes in legislation. However, this does not reduce the relevance of the question of why a privacy policy is necessary, how to correctly compose it and where to place it, because every day more and more new sites are registered on the Internet.

A website's privacy policy is a document bank email list that sets out the terms of collection, storage, processing and use of personal data about the user. It is important to exclude the possibility of unscrupulous website owners using the collected information for selfish purposes. Therefore, the legal assessment of the document being drawn up should be given by experienced experts.

Not long ago, policy was of secondary importance. No one — neither the owners of the sites nor the users — really even delved into its meaning. Now the law has become stricter regarding resources that request personal information. Owners are legally responsible for transferring the collected information to third parties and are required to indicate what measures are taken to prevent data leaks.

The privacy policy text for the site should be placed on the first page and be easily accessible for viewing by the user even before he decides to register.

The privacy policy for the site concerns any personal data of a person, be it a surname and name, an e-mail or postal address, a phone number, cards, etc. The leakage of such information can cause both material and moral problems, because a person leaves his data in order to receive certain goods (services).

The customer's loyalty to your resource will be greatly reduced if the person's personal data is obtained by advertising companies or even scammers. Moreover, in such cases you are threatened with legal proceedings and administrative liability.

Why place a privacy policy on a website
Firstly, the law concerning the field of personal data (Code of Administrative Offences of the Russian Federation, Art. 13, 11) requires that the privacy policy be posted on the website. It states that this document must be provided with unimpeded access (by publication or other means). Violators receive a warning and a fine (up to 30,000 rubles).

Secondly, the owner of the site, neglecting legal norms and trends, creates an unfavorable reputation for himself. This aspect is somewhat subjective, marketing in nature, but its importance should not be underestimated.

A website's privacy policy is a kind of business card that should be created competently and individually. In no case should you post someone else's privacy policy. It may not necessarily comply with the laws in force in this area, even if the site has been around for a long time. There is no general template for a website's privacy policy.

Each time the owner offers a certain policy of legal relations, and the user, agreeing, puts his signature under it. And any agreement, even about a simple purchase and sale, is individual in nature. As for the data collected about the client, this means not only their list and storage periods.

The nature of the processing of the information received must not be contrary to the stated purposes of its collection. This is punishable by fines in the amount of 30,000 to 50,000 rubles.

It is clear that the publication of a policy document, even if drawn up according to all the rules, does not guarantee complete data security. A set of technical, legal, and organizational measures is also necessary. But if a site does not publish a document (or if it is drawn up in violation of existing regulations), it will be easier for regulatory authorities to identify violations and apply sanctions against the owner of the web site.
