Smartphone protection: standards
Two standards are responsible for the resistance of smartphones to various external influences, by which gadgets that claim the title of ultra-rugged are tested.
The IP (International Protection) standard determines the cameroon number data protection of a smartphone against water and dirt. According to the test results, the device receives a two-digit marking. The first digit indicates the degree of protection against dust, the second against water. Thus, a smartphone with the IP-68 marking is completely protected against dust and can withstand immersion in water to a depth of up to a meter.
The MIL-STD-810G standard determines the resistance of a smartphone to physical impacts – shocks, temperatures, pressure, immersion in water, and so on. It was developed by the US Department of Defense to test gadgets that enter service with the US military. The standard carries out many tests, but the most common requirements that a device must withstand to receive certification:
At least 26 falls from a height of 1.2 meters;
Immersion in water to a depth of up to one meter for 30 minutes;
Temperatures from -40 to +60;
External pressure up to 0.5 tons.
