The summer after I graduated, I put off looking for a job and worked freelance for a while. My criteria for job openings were the ability to work in silence and solitude. Job openings such as "room cleaner" or "new restaurant employee" suited me. The first attracted me because such work could be done alone. My next job was at a 24-hour department store. When I was looking for a job, I deliberately chose a mid-tier company that later took the lead. I decided to continue working somewhere that was not strictly organized, where everything was still in the process of becoming, and where I could make a contribution. It was a good decision: the harder I worked, the better my results were and the more I was appreciated.
