What is domain forwarding

Post by gafimiv406 »

Redirection is the automatic redirection of a visitor from one Internet address to another. For example, by typing "www.eurobyte.ru" in the browser's address bar (or by following a link), any Internet user will immediately get to the site "eurobyte.ru", which from the point of view of search engines is a separate address.
A redirect, as a redirect is also called, implies the presence of a donor page (from where they redirect) and an acceptor page (to where they redirect). In our example, a domain with www is a donor, and without is an acceptor. In this article, we will explain why redirects are needed, what types there are, and in what situations they are most often used.

Why do you need domain forwarding?
A redirect can be perceived as a traffic control tool. Its task is to direct a visitor (human or search robot) to the current web page if the address to which he goes is invalid at the moment.

There could be many reasons for this:

the company rebranded and changed its domain name;
an SSL certificate was connected to the site and the protocol was changed;
the internal structure of the web resource has changed and the content has been moved to other pages;
a certain product/service became unavailable or the website moved to a new paraguay whatsapp number database CMS with different URL generation rules.
A user can simply make a mistake in the domain name (write "gooogle" instead of "google"), and then you will lose a potential client. With the help of a redirect, this is easy to avoid: just set up a transfer from the wrong web address to the correct one. In addition, redirection is often used in online promotion and advertising. We will talk about this a little later.

Types of domain redirection
Redirecting a site to another domain can occur using several schemes. In the first case, the user is immediately taken to the page that you specify in the redirect settings. In this case, he will see the acceptor address in the browser line. In the second case, the request is redirected using domain masking in the frame, i.e. the donor address is saved in the URL line, and the content of the target web page is loaded inside the frame. The third scheme involves setting up a mass redirection of any requests from the pages of one address to the pages of another.

It is also important to differentiate between redirect types. The most common are 301 (permanent) and 302 (temporary). With a 301 redirect, search engines understand that the site has moved permanently, so there is no need to index the old address anymore. All of its link mass and traffic indicators are transferred to the acceptor domain. A 302 redirect is temporary. Search engines do not throw the web page out of the index and save all its indicators, but for the duration of the redirect, they redirect users to the desired web address.

When to use a redirect
Setting up a redirect to a website may be necessary in different situations. We have already mentioned some of them, while others — the most popular ones — will be discussed in separate points. As for marketing, domain transfer is often used to increase the effectiveness of advertising. Developing a separate resource for a new service is not always profitable, but promoting it with a long URL like “https://mycompany.ru/new-product” will be problematic. In this case, the brand simply registers the domain “newproduct.ru”, indicates it in advertising materials and sets up a redirect from it to the corresponding page of its main Internet resource. The same applies to mobile/desktop or language versions, as well as special URLs with UTM tags that help track the source of traffic.
