Three years conquering TikTok

Post by Abdur14 »

Founded in 2020 by young Madrid natives Gabriela Campbell, Daniela Álvarez, María Murillo and Paula Muñoz, Ac2ality has managed to make a name for itself on the TikTok social network and in its short history has become the news profile with the most followers in Spain and the second most followed in Europe, surpassed only by the Daily Mail. Internationally, it is among the top five, even above major US media outlets such as the Washington Post.

As Daniela Álvarez told us in an interview a few months after its launch, “it is a digital newspaper aimed at Generation Z. The idea really came to me at the UN, where I did an internship. There we had to make summaries of everything that was happening and give them to the diplomats. There were topics that I couldn’t understand, even by reading newspaper articles. So I thought: I wish there was a newspaper where all the news was outlined with drawings and with easier vocabulary. The new generations want things to be simpler, more direct, and the less effort, the better . They prefer to watch videos on YouTube than read the news.”

In that same interview, Daniela anticipated what she believed hungary number data would happen three years later. That is, today. And it seems that she was right: “The future is TikTok and videos. We have found this niche very quickly and early on in a market that needed it: local journalism, influencer journalism . We have known how to exploit it and we know what people like. Traditional journalism is going to have to adapt. Surely in the future newspapers will contact us to do their news and thus attract Generation Z.”

The format is based on publishing a total of six short videos each day, each approximately one minute long, describing the 'five key things you need to know today'. These short videos combine strong images with accessible language that attracts the attention of the younger generation of viewers.

2021 was the first year in which Ac2ality made money, reaching 28,309 euros. However, the losses recorded amounted to 110,000 euros, the result of the 84,000 euros spent on salaries (this year it closed with three employees) plus the 53,000 euros spent on payments to other companies for work.
