e alertness of primary care physicians, since most patients (60%) are hospitalized for the first time in infectious and general hospitals. [7, p. 26–28] The “gold standard” for diagnosing tuberculous meningitis is the isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis from the cerebrospinal fluid by culture; however, this method, although 100% specific, has low sensitivity. According to domestic authors, the diagnosis is confirmed bacteriologically in 4–8% to 27% of cases. According to foreign literature, up to 40% is confirmed by bacterioscopy and up to 60% by culture. These results are received by physicians in the second or third month of hospitalization. Thus, bacteriological testing can only confirm the diagnosis of tuberculous meningitis. [4, p. [224–227] Highly sensitive and specific diagnostic technologies, such as PCR of cerebrospinal fluid with the isolation of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA, can currently be used and are used only in certain institutions, and the diagnosis necessary for timely specific therapy is established on the basis of the following signs: the presence of tuberculosis contact or tuberculosis in the past; gradual cyclical development of the disease; characteristic cerebrospinal fluid syndrome. [9, p. 56] Even with a sufficiently powerful arsenal of drugs and diagnostic technologies, it is not always possible to cope with every case of tuberculous new zealand whatsapp phone number meningitis, since, being the most severe complication of the tuberculosis process, it quickly leads to disability (decreased intelligence, blindness, deafness, hydrocephalus, paralysis) and even death of the patient. [2, p. 207, 6, p. 148–150] Thus, the social significance of the disease, the insufficient amount of data characterizing the epidemiological situation of tuberculous meningitis in conditions of tuberculosis endemicity, and the need to clarify the clinical and laboratory symptom complex of modern tuberculous meningitis dictated the need to conduct this study.

determine the medical and social characteristics of patients with tuberculous meningitis at the present stage.

Materials and methods of the study. A retrospective analysis of 50 inpatient records of tuberculous meningitis who were treated in the Republican Clinical Tuberculosis Hospital of the Ministry of Health of the Udmurt Republic in 2015–2019 was conducted. The results were processed using standard statistical methods.
