A study by comScore found that Russians are the most active social network users in the world in terms of time spent on the sites. In August 2010, 34.5 million Russian Internet users, or 74.5% of Russia's entire online audience over the age of 15, visited at least one social network. The study also found that Yandex remains the most popular search engine in Russia. The
average amount of time spent by Russians on social networks was 9.8 hours per visitor, which is twice as much as the average in other countries, where the figure was 4.5 hours. Israel came in second, with users spending an average of 9.2 hours communicating online. Turkey came in third, with the average time spent on such sites being 7.6 hours.

Vkontakte.ru took first place in the rating of social networks in Russia with 27.8 million visitors, in second place was the site "Odnoklassniki", which in August 2010 was visited by 16.7 million users of the Russian Internet. Despite the strong position of Facebook in the world, this site took only fifth place in Russia with an indicator of 4.5 million visitors. Nevertheless, last year, its audience grew by 376%, this is the fastest growth rate compared to all other social networking sites in the top five.

Of the 44 million Internet users aged 15+ in Russia in August 2010, 34.9 million visited the sites of Yandex, which topped the rating. Internet holding DST (now - Mail.ru Group), which includes such sites and ecuador phone number data services as Mail.ru, Odnoklassniki and ICQ, takes second place with an audience of 34.4 million visitors. In third place are Google sites with 30.2 million unique visitors. Russian social network Vkontakte.ru ranks fourth with 28 million visitors, or 63.6 percent of Russia's total internet audience.

"It's interesting to see the continued growth of the internet market in Russia, with many Russian companies owning sites that are more popular than those of global players," says Mike Reed, senior vice president and managing director of comScore in Europe. "The significant growth of Russian social networks represents significant advertising opportunities and reflects the importance of the internet for communication among the Russian population."
