The voice of one crying in the wilderness

Post by Mitu100@ »

Interesting analysis of lobbyists present at COP by Kick Big Polluters Out. What emerged? That there are 1,773 fossil fuel lobbyists accredited at COP29, almost all men and more than the members of the delegations of the ten countries most vulnerable to climate change combined. If they were a country, they would be the fourth most represented country, in terms of accredited passes. Our fossil fuel companies are also not missing, including Eni and Snam.

Nnimmo Bassey, a member of Kick Big Polluters Out, argues that “the influence of fossil fuel lobbyists in climate negotiations is like a poisonous snake squeezing the future of our planet. It is time to expose their deception, remove their influence and force them to pay for the damage they have inflicted on the planet. It is time to prioritise the voices of those fighting for justice and sustainability, not the interests of polluters.”

The “Fossil of the day Awards”, a prize awarded phone number library by CAN (Climate Action Network) to countries that are “doing the most to achieve the least” and “doing their best to be the worst” in terms of progress in climate negotiations and climate action, went to the G7 countries.

An interesting poster was displayed at the OPEC stand (yes, OPEC makes its voice heard at the climate conference).

The 4 key messages are: Mitigation, Finance, Adaptation, Collaboration.

That Adaptation makes you feel a shiver that starts from the first cervical vertebrae and goes down to the coccyx, to find its final home a little lower. For the series: "Get used to the troubles caused by the climate that we have to continue to grind money".
